NINE DECADES OF QUALITY

Veterinary Institute JSC Subotica was founded in 1921 as Patria – Serum Production Institute Belgrade-Subotica.

The Institute exported serums to Rumania, Czechoslovakia, but also to Switzerland already in 1928, while, in 1931, the production programme of the Institute covered 22 preparations.

Until the end of the Second World War the Institute had changed its status twice: from 1937 it was operating as a subsidiary of the Yugoslav Serum Institute with headquarters in Zagreb, and from 1942 as a Behring-Szerum Intezet subsidiary with headquarters in Budapest.

Status changes influenced the increase in the production programme, hence in 1937 the Institute produced 17 serum types, 20 vaccine types and 15 drug types for the use in domestic animals.

Upon the end of the Second World War, organisation-wise, the Institute was part of the National Institute for the Production of Veterinary Vaccines and Drugs with headquarters in Belgrade, and, in a form of planned production, produced and marketed serums and vaccines ordered by the Ministry.

The Institute took its present name, i.e. Veterinary Institute JSC Subotica, in 1952, and also assumed a new strategic task: to produce vaccines against dangerous, but common livestock foot and mouth disease.

Along with the primary programme for veterinary medicine preparations, the Institute started the production of disinfectants from the pesticides programme in the 1950s, and in 1960 started industrial animal food production.

Unlike many, the Institute left the so-called planned economy as early as 1958, and started market operations. Over nine decades of its existence, the Veterinary Institute JSC Subotica had undergone several status and ownership changes in line with socio-political developments, and at present it operates as a joint stock company having a representative office in Belgrade.

Since 2005, Veterinary Institute JSC Subotica has been operating within Victoria Group - the corner-stone of Subotica JSC Veterinary Institute operations and development.
